Queen Margrethe II’s Roman Prize is awarded annually to a researcher who has made an outstanding scientific contribution within a field of study relevant to the activities of the Danish Academy in Rome.
Queen Margrethe II’s Roman Prize was established by the Carlsberg Foundation in 2015.
The purpose of the prize is to honour and promote research conducted at, or in affiliation with, the Danish Academy in Rome.
The prize is awarded at the annual meeting of the Danish Academy in Rome, which takes place in October. The recipient gives the honorary lecture at the annual celebration. The prize includes DKK 100,000, awarded as a personal distinction.
The recipient is selected by the Board of the Danish Academy in Rome on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of the academy's management (the director and the chair of the board), the director of the Carlsberg Foundation, and a representative of the Danish Royal House.
