cfgrant@carlsbergfoundation.dkThe Carlsberg Foundation wants to bring scientific ideas, curiosity and breakthroughs closer to a wide audience. This is why the Foundation twice a year issues calls for applications for science communication funding through the Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat calls for applications. Applications are now open, with a deadline of 1 September 2026.
Do you want to make science more accessible and spark curiosity among the wider public? Or are you keen to bring your own research to life for a broad audience in Denmark?
If so, you can now apply for funding for science communication through the Carlsberg Foundation’s Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat calls for applications.
While the Science Communication call for applications is aimed at professional communicators with documented experience of designing and carrying out major communication projects, Carlsberg Mindelegat is aimed at researchers who wish to communicate their own research.
For both calls, the principal communication produced must, as a general rule, be accessible free of charge to all interested parties.
The deadline for submitting applications is 1 September 2026.
About the Science Communication call for applications
Within the framework of the Science Communication type of grant, applicants can apply for up to DKK 3 million for activities that communicate basic research and science within the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. The communication activities can be independently defined or form part of a larger communication programme, and the principal communication should be easily accessible by all interested persons free of charge.
Funding may be sought for various types of communication format, for example festivals, events, lectures, TV and radio productions, podcasts, SoMe productions and multimedia activities.
Applicants must have documented professional experience of communication. Furthermore, it is a requirement that the project involves collaboration with researchers who either directly contribute to the communication project or quality-assure the final production.
About Carlsberg Mindelegat call for applications
The Carlsberg Mindelegat type of grant is open to applications from researchers who want to communicate their own research to non-scientific audiences. Applicants may apply for up to DKK 200,000, and the communication can be independently defined or form part of a larger programme. Potential formats include lectures, events, written publications, TV and radio productions, and podcasts.
Applicants must as a minimum have a PhD and be affiliated to a Danish research institution. It is also a requirement that the project involves collaboration with professional experts with documented experience of communication, journalism or media production.
Science for Denmark since 1876
This year marks exactly 150 years since the Carlsberg Foundation was established by brewer J.C. Jacobsen with the purpose of returning part of the profits from his brewery, Carlsberg, to society in the form of grants for independent basic research.
In 2026, we celebrate 150 years of science for Denmark from the Carlsberg Foundation by honoring both independent basic research and the Danish foundation model through a wide range of activities.
