
The Carlsberg Foundation appoints Anne-Louise Sommer as a new member of the New Carlsberg Foundation’s board

Anne-Louise Sommer, museum director of Designmuseum Danmark, will join the other foundation board members in supporting the New Carlsberg Foundation’s continued work to strengthen the role of art in society and ensure the foundation’s further development in the coming years.
With Anne-Louise Sommer, the New Carlsberg Foundation’s board is getting a strong new member with the highest level of skills in design, innovation, research and education, as well as a visionary and experienced leader and board participant. Anne-Louise Sommer, who is director of Designmuseum Danmark, has been appointed to the foundation board for a five-year period.Her in-depth knowledge of design and innovation will complement the board’s work to develop the grant-awarding activities within decorative art and design in the years ahead.
Members of the New Carlsberg Foundation are appointed by the Carlsberg Foundation.

As of today, the New Carlsberg Foundation’s board comprises: Sanne Kofod Olsen, chair of the board and vice-chancellor of the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm; Stine Høholt, director of Kunstmuseum Brandts; Toke Lykkeberg, director of Tranen contemporary art exhibition space; Anders Byriel, CEO of Kvadrat A/S; and Anne-Louise Sommer, museum director of Designmuseum Danmark.
About the New Carlsberg Foundation
The New Carlsberg Foundation was established in 1902 by brewer Carl Jacobsen and his wife Ottilia, and is funded mainly by dividends from shares in Carlsberg A/S. Today, the New Carlsberg Foundation continues to realise Jacobsen’s vision of promoting art in society and making it available to the widest possible audience. About Anne-Louise Sommer
Anne-Louise Sommer (b.1961) is a design researcher, author and museum director. She obtained an MA in Literature Science from the University of Copenhagen in 1987, but has mainly worked in the field of design and architecture history. In 2004, she became an associate professor at the Danish Design School and served as rector from 2009. Since September 2011, she has been museum director at Designmuseum Danmark, and in February 2012 she became an adjunct professor of design culture and history at the University of Southern Denmark.
As an author, Anne-Louise Sommer has contributed with a range of books and articles on architecture, design and cultural history. Her publications include De dødes haver: Den moderne storbykirkegård (2003), Operaen på Dokøen: Kulturhistorien, Projektet, Arkitekturen (2005), Kaare Klint (2007) and Den danske arkitektur (2009). Anne-Louise Sommer has also held numerous board positions, including with the Royal Danish Academy (2011-2019), the Danish Design Center (2011-2016) and the Norwegian University College of Dance (2009-2019).
