The Carlsberg Foundation awards Internationalisation Fellowships to 18 promising research talents

International research collaboration is one of the Carlsberg Foundation’s strategic focus areas. It is also a clear goal for the foundation to promote the younger research generation's opportunities to establish themselves as independent researchers - in Denmark as well as internationally.

Based on this, the foundation now for the first time separately awards just over DKK 13 million to 18 postdoctoral fellowships, which will enable talented, young researchers to complete research stays of minimum one year and maximum two years at highly esteemed research institutions outside Denmark.

I hope that these fellowships will form the basis for stimulating research stays that will not only provide new experiences and important professional insights, but also serve to improve future career opportunities for the young talents”, states the chairwoman of the Carlsberg Foundation, Majken Schultz.

From Antarctic sensitivity to detection of lung cancer in blood

The 18 Internationalisation Fellowships will cover research topics as diverse as the Antarctic ice cap's sensitivity to regional sea level rise, the development of a method for detecting lung cancer in blood, archaeological remains from early urban Rome, and new and ancient methods for making wine in a time of climate change.

The Internationalisation Fellowships are awarded based on applications received for the Spring Call 2022 aimed at researchers at postdoctoral level. By the application deadline of 1 April, the foundation had received 34 applications, with a distribution of 17 within the natural sciences, ten within the humanities and seven within the social sciences. Ten of the scholarships are awarded to female applicants, while eight fellowships are awarded to male applicants.
