Summary

A multidisciplinary symposium about how we picture, interpret, and communicate about the world, in particular food and taste, based on our sensory perception. In order to facilitate a constructive discussion in a concrete setting, bridging the sciences and the humanities, the proposed symposium will explore sensoric experience by focusing on a highly specific input: food. Food can be defined as those part of the world we eat. By eating food we interact with the environment by multisensory tasting, ingesting, and eventually combining the human body with parts of the surrounding world. Eating food simultaneously and fundamentally engages us as biological entities and as experiential beings, it engages metabolism as well as aesthetics.
