Tracing mercury sources and pathways into the Arctic

Recent technological advances make it possible and timely to study Hg sources and pathways into the Arctic environment, especially in light of global and local societal and political need. This is now possible by measurements of Hg isotopes using MC-ICP-MS applied fore in the present project. Further, there is a need to include such measurements in the circumpolar Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) under the Arctic Council to improve the understanding of Hg sources and pathways into the Arctic on a broader scale. Since the research group at BIOS-Roskilde is deeply involved with the AMAP work, results will not only be available for the scientific community through publications in scientific journals but will also be included in future AMAP Assessments for the Arctic Council.
