Including Indigenous Perspectives in Emerging Greenlandic Resource Exploration

Large parts of the world are in need of sand, and Greenland’s coast holds enormous amounts of exactly this material. If this resource is exploited, Greenland could feasibly benefit from climate change, while supplying the world’s growing need for sand and relieving the pressure on other over-exploited areas in the world. The Greenland Government has initiated a national plan for the export of sand and the interest has been widespread. However, no efforts to include the perspectives of Greenlanders on sand mining have been made as of yet. This project will give the Greenlanders an opportunity to share their perspectives on what may be a determining factor for their future and their country’s economy.
