Summary

The international conference Danish Empires of Vision (DEV) re-writes visual and material knowledge-making practices into the global history of Danish empire and imperial expansion. DEV breaks new ground by combining emerging methods in Historical Studies (particularly Art History and the History of Science) and Natural Science, Critical Social Inquiry and Colonial Studies, and Artistic and Curatorial research to critically explore the interconnected histories of art and science against an historical backdrop of Danish imperialism from the Medieval period through the turn of the 20th century. The conference brings together academic and museum researchers, artists and curators in a forum combining scholarly papers, remaking methods workshop, and curated public film performance.
