Summary

Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia, and unfortunately an increasing public health problem in the Western world. Huge genetics undertakings in the last decade have increased our genetic understanding of the disease, but until now the obtained knowledge has not led to improved treatment of patients. This is largely due to our lack of understanding of the molecular changes driving the disease. We propose a collaborative multi-omics research project including deep quantitative proteomics data, single cell transcriptomics data, and genomics data to investigate molecular profiles directly in human atrial tissue to identify networks of cells and proteins underlying the disease mechanisms of atrial fibrillation.
