What?

The DIANA exchange project - DIgital twins Assessing resource recovery techNologies in wAter treatment systems-- seeks to demonstrate the benefits of transiting from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) to water resource recovery facilities (WWRF) amongst water treatment facilities in Denmark. Fundamentally, the project will deliver a new generation of engineering tools to simulate resource recovery options in selected Danish plants and to evaluate the suitability of these novel technologies in line with the objectives of the sustainability and circular economy paradigm

Why?

The topic covered in this proposal is aligned with multiple UN Sustainability Development Goals and goes towards a more circular economy where the waste generated from one industry becomes a secondary raw material for another and there is a lower dependency on raw material imports.

How?

The objective of this exchange project is to set-up the basis for a future alliance between the Danish Technical University (DTU) and the University of Queensland (UQ) in the field of resource recovery from water treatment systems. In this stay the fundamentals about how construct digital support tools based on virtual replicas of (bio)chemical processes combining off-line (measurements) and on-line data (sensor) to (automatically) assess how to transform waste flows with small economic value into valuable products.
