Summary

Proteins are needed for the construction and maintenance of all types of cells. Proteins consist of amino acids that are carefully chosen and linked in the order given by the genetic protein recipe. The accuracy of this process is vital to ensure protein functionality and cellular health. In bacteria, elongation factor EF-Tu delivers amino-acid building blocks to the cellular protein synthesis machine. The aim of the project is to deduce how movements in EF-Tu contribute to increase the fidelity of selecting the correct amino acids. The angular rotations of discrete parts of EF-Tu will be observed during correct and incorrect decoding of the genetic message to reveal how EF-Tu contributes to accurate protein synthesis. The results will have medical and biotechnological relevance.
