Summary

A well-functioning vascular system is essential for all vertebrates. Vascular dysfunction contributes to more diseases than any other organ. Although the vessels comprise many different cells, most studies examine their function only by looking at a single cell type. Commonly used in vitro and in vivo models have multiple limitations. Tissue organoids derived from pluripotent stem cells have become a unique alternative to the use of in vitro cellular models or in vivo animal models. Organoids recapitulate more in vivo-like microenvironments, which yield more valid molecular mechanisms of biological processes and allow us to study interactions between multiple cell types. Therefore, we aim to establish a framework for the generation of vascularized organoids to study blood vessel function.
