Summary
Do democratic representative institutions help foster or impede radical change? Our workshop - to be held at Roskilde University in June 2022 - brings together scholars from Denmark and South Africa to examine this shared research question. The question is important because contemporary movements such as the later-globalization movements, and populist movements - criticize traditional representative institutions as less than democratic. The focus is on the relationship between political institutions, political parties and radical politics in the Global North and the Global South today, specifically Denmark and South Africa. Looking at this question across the Global North/Global South divide provides us with a novel perspective on the research question.
