Summary
Universities and their departments and research groups are placed in international status hierarchies. Status is primarily determined by research performance, which requires research capability. The research question of this project is: Do universities/departments use research seminars-public presentations of research by invited guests-strategically to build research capability (through scholarly exchange) and signal status? We collect data on seminar activity from the world's leading business schools and link them to data on individual and institutional research productivity, and analyze the data set using state-of-the-art quantitative methods to address our research question.
