Summary
The project explores how new technologies, such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) transform the ways in which digital objects are consumed and owned. The aim is to develop new knowledge of how ownership, scarcity and uniqueness are created in the digital worlds of perfect, easily reproducible copies. Such knowledge can: 1) provide a solid foundation for critical discussion of the merits and limits of new forms of digital ownership, 2) help businesses and creators better navigate the opportunities and challenges of digital ownership, and 3) offer valuable insights for policy makers tasked with regulating and/or stimulating the development of NFT commerce, and the future ‘metaverses' of digital consumption.
