Summary

The book offers an original, unified examination of cultural journalism – a distinct type of professional journalism that has expanded vastly in view of globalization and later digitalization of culture. Applying media theoretical, historical, and sociological approaches, the book analyses how cultural journalism, as an alternative to traditional hard news reporting, has transformed, especially since the mid-20th century, and continues to offer a cultural filter on the world and set agendas for society’s cultural reflection and debate. As cultural journalism has a long history as a newsroom practice and has the attention of policy makers, the book will have impact both within and beyond academia.
