Summary
Suitable preclinical models reflecting the complexity of cancers in patients are required for detailed understanding of drug resistance mechanisms and development of novel individualized therapies. Recently, organoids, which are small clumps of dividing cells derived from biopsies of cancer patients, have been found to be a highly relevant model system. Characterizing these organoids using state-of-the-art live-cell imaging system with multiple different assay types combined with multi-omics analysis will allow us to evaluate the efficacy of different therapies. This should lead to increased insight into drug resistance mechanisms and identification of novel treatment strategies for cancer patients.
