Summary
The requested cell disruptor will have multiple uses as it will be suitable to brake cell types ranging from unicellular organims to plant cells and it will be able to operate over a wide range of volumes ranging from less than 1 ml to hundreds of liter. Cell disruption is the first step in numerous laboratory procedures to gain access to intracellular macromolecules or organelles. Here, one proposed application will be in the preparation of yeast nuclei to study how DNA, the genetic material, is packaged in nuclei. Another application will be in purifying protein complexes to understand the function of a protein of interest, Mrc1, by identifying its interactors under various conditions.
