Summary
This research project takes a novel and broad perspective by investigating the potential long-term scarring effects of an extensive range of poor starts and mishaps in the labor market, such as employment in low-paying firms or inadequate job matches. The proposed project is therefore designed to advance research on the economics of career mobility by analyzing the damaging effect of early-stage career mishaps on future employment outcomes, in the short and long term. I also aim at exploring the implications of such penalty on future career prospects for both aggregate labor productivity and the degree of wage inequality across workers.
