Summary
Local democracy rests on local voters casting a local vote based on local political considerations, but local politics are more and more dominated by nationwide parties and national political discussions. This monograph develops a way to measure how “local” local elections really are and apply this diagonal view to electoral statistics and five waves of voter surveys covering the period 2005-2021.
