Summary

We study the familiar greening of the beech forest in the early spring. The trees can teach us how living organisms store potently active material in an inactive form, only to be activated when conditions are right. We will study how inactive aggregates of a key growth stimulator are dissolved and activated by biochemical wizardry when temperatures increase sufficiently in the spring.
