Summary

Images of the individual express societal values, and the Roman world has yielded rich evidence from the first four centuries CE. This conference focuses on portraits from the ancient world and will reassess these based on the corpus of the Palmyra Portrait Project – the world’s largest ancient portrait corpus – which has brought about a call for new and in-depth studies of portrait cultures.
