Summary
Fish welfare in production industries is becoming increasingly important for politicians and the public. The aim is to develop a non-invasive environmental DNA/RNA approach to detect stress markers from fish in water samples to estimate welfare. Fresh- and saltwater samples from fish farms will be collected and appropriate assays developed. The outcome can impact management strategies on farms.
