What?

According to the standard philosophical and legal view, a valid consent is an informed consent. But extant accounts of what it means for a consent to be adequately informed face challenges. The aim of this project is developing a novel account of informed consent of relevance to medical consent, sexual consent and consent in commercial transactions.

Why?

Consent plays an indispensable role in social life (think of sexual consent, medical consent and so on). For that reason, it's important to have a precise understanding of when a consent is valid.

How?

This is a project in normative analytical philosophy that draws on the methodology familiar from this field. The aim of this project is to develop a general and plausible account of what it takes to give informed consent. In developing this account, the project will draw on novel, recent findings within the semantics and epistemology of questions.
