Summary
Bacteria degrade organic matter and are essential for all life on Earth. Different bacteria divide the workload when degrading complex molecules, but who and how remain unknown as most microorganisms cannot be cultured using conventional methods. This grant will enable us to grow bacteria together in tiny droplets and enable efficient analyses of combinations of otherwise unculturable bacteria.
