Summary
Cells can rapidly respond to changes in their surrounding oxygen concentration. Central mechanisms of this response are known but much remains unclear. We have used a novel method to identify that a - scarcely studied - structural form (called NCys) of some proteins increases substantially in low oxygen conditions. Our investigations involve the role of one such NCys-form of the enzyme OTUB1.
