Resumé
Chemical reactions at the surfaces of catalysts, biological cells and electronic devices take place on molecular timescales - femtoseconds to picoseconds. To be able to follow chemical reaction in real time we do surface spectroscopy with ultrashort laser pulses. The pulse shaper granted within this project will allow us to prepare laser pulse sequences to track how molecules react, move and how energy flows through molecular interfaces as it happens in real time. The information will benefit the design of new materials and a better understanding of cell biology.
