Optical Floating Zone System for Single Crystal Growth

In this project an optical floating zone crystal growth system will be installed for studies of a wide range of advanced electronic phenomena. Large single crystals constitute the foundation for many discoveries in materials science. Historically, the successful growth of pure silicon made transistors and computers possible. Likewise, crystals in this project are the foundation for studies pursuing the materials used in future electronics that will have immense societal impact. The new infrastructure will be unique platform for my research group and many scientific collaborations.
