Resumé
In recent years, scientific progress in the field of geology has largely been driven by the development of new technology. However, this focus on cutting edge methods, has resulted in a neglect for the fundamental importance of understanding the petrography and mineral relations in rocks: leading to several examples of outright misunderstandings in high-profile papers. Although my research interests are diverse and ranges from studying the meteoritic building blocks of the Earth, the formation of the continents and mineral deposits, to the development of novel carbon capture and storage protocols, all of these topics have petrography as their common denominator. Hence, my ambition is to re-establish rigorous petrography as the first-order principles in order to conduct robust science.
