Resumé

Electrons move across modern nanotransistors on a very fast timescale, reaching picosecond transit times. The control of electron motion in nanotransistors is the basis of computing, and therefore, electronic properties of relevant materials on the sub-picosecond timescale is highly relevant if we want to overcome present-day limitations to computing and develop new schemes for information processing. DEEP-MAP will image the electronic properties of novel two-dimensional electronic materials on the nanoscale, with sub-picosecond time resolution. We will use femtosecond lightwaves in the terahertz spectral range and extreme focusing of this light to a deep subwavelength volume in a near-field microscope to visualize ultrafast conductivity of electrons confined in nanoscopic volumes.
