The Power of Marble. Materiality and Narratives in Italian Architecture from Revivalism to Rationalism

This conference aims to examine the crucial place given to marble in Italian architectural culture between the 19th and the 20th Century. Inspired by the material turn and referring to the notion of material agency the aim is to consider the role of marble in the construction of the imagery of the Italian nation, from the unification of the nation to the Fascist regime.
