Bullet Proof Democracy – an Intellectual History of Democracies Defending Themselves

Democracy is currently in peril domestically and globally. This is not the first crisis period of democracy, nor the first where ideas of democratic self-defense has been formulated. This project investigates how democratic actors think about the reasons and methods of self-defense, spanning from ancient Greece till today, giving historical depth and a focus on ideas to a very topical challenge.
