Resumé
The project aims at demonstrating a true quantum advantage in quantum communication and quantum computing. Today we are able to tame the quantum world and thus exploit the mindboggling quantum phenomena to develop new types of technologies that promise extremely safe communication over long distances and super-fast computation. However, getting to the point where these technologies beat the classical counterparts still constitutes a large challenge. By exploiting the photon-counting detectors that are covered by the Carlsberg grant, we will get one critical step closer to the outstanding goal of constructing quantum computers and quantum communication systems that solve real-life problems beyond what is possible with classical systems.
