Hvad?

BeTA-BEE investigates why households aren't adopting energy-efficient technologies despite potential savings and environmental benefits. Focusing on buildings, which contribute 31% of global CO2 emissions, we will explore behavioral barriers behind the "energy-efficiency gap" and slow renovation rates. Our innovative methods will uncover why current adoption falls short of urgent climate needs.

Hvorfor?

With global energy demand set to surge 47% by 2050, improving efficiency is vital for a low-carbon future. Despite massive policy efforts, household adoption of energy-efficient technology remains low. Our research will uncover hidden factors influencing decisions, providing crucial insights for policymakers. This knowledge is key to accelerating urgent energy savings and combating climate change.

Hvordan?

Using machine learning on the comprehensive Danish administrative data we will identify key predictors of technology adoption. Through nation-wide surveys and field experiments, we will estimate the impact of non-monetary factors and behavioral barriers on investment decisions of private households. Collaborating with government agencies, we will test interventions to encourage investments.
